What I look for in furniture
Over the
years, I have had a lot of furniture. The first furniture that I
ever had was purchased for me by my mother. She and my father had
rented me an apartment in Houston to live in by myself. The day
that the apartment was ready, I moved in. My mother came from San
Antonio to take me to the new place.
She bought me several pieces of furniture, including a twin side
bed with box spring and frame, a dinette set and the two
chairs and a comfortable chair for my living room. The
next piece of furniture that I got was a huge couch that was left
beside a dumpster at a local apartment complex.
Once I got on my feet it was time to go out and get some
new furniture. Budget and price were still important, but not
the main considerations; rather I was looking for comfort, quality,
ease of care, and manufactured by a reputable company.
Comfort
Now I have a few dollars to spare I will definately be
going for furniture that is comfortable. My priorities are a
new bed and lounge chair. Comfort is less important in dining
furniture, but outddor furniture shold be comfortable as well.
Quality
I am sick of furniture that deteriorates in a few months.
The old saying is you get what you pay for and I'll be targeting
good quality furniture that will last. Even leather furniture
can very in quality so you need to be careful.
Ease of Care
Hand in hand with quality is ease of care. I want to be
able to easily get rid of those dog hairs and wine stains, not to
mention bit of baby poop when the time comes. Leather has its
benefits, but cloth furniture treated to resist stains can provide
the best of both worlds.
Reputable Manufacturer
So I guess if I'm after all the above then I will need to go to
a well known furntiure manufacturer with a good reputation.
Every city has them, and I plan to go to the best department stores
for my test driving and the yellow pages for the buying.
I think that I have been to almost all of the furniture stores
in San Antonio. Furniture stores can be fun once in awhile. I like
walking around and imagining what kind of home that each piece
should end up in.
